Welcome Travis Jones

Travis is an archaeologist, currently finalizing his dissertation at the University of Georgia. With a focus on geoarchaeology, Travis has developed an expertise in elemental and isotopic analysis, a specialization that stands at the intersection of archaeology and geoscience. He has over a decade of experience specifically in radiocarbon dating and X-ray fluorescence (XRF), two techniques that are cornerstones in modern archaeological science.

During his tenure at the University of Georgia, Travis played a critical role in managing the XRF laboratory at the university’s Center for Applied Isotope Studies (CAIS). He was also Vice President of PaleoResearch Institute where he worked with radiocarbon, XRF and FTIR. These positions not only underscore his technical capabilities but also his ability to oversee complex research operations. His work at CAIS has contributed to the field of geoarchaeology, particularly in the application of XRF in archaeological contexts.

Travis’s expertise extends beyond the laboratory. He has a rich history of collaboration with numerous organizations throughout North America. Notably, his work with multiple state-level organizations, the Smithsonian Institution, and the Royal Alberta Museum has underscored his status as a versatile and sought-after analyst. These collaborations have often centered around his specialized skills in radiocarbon dating and elemental analysis, contributing to the successful completion of various archaeological projects.

In addition to his field and laboratory expertise, Travis is proficient in a variety of statistical and mapping software packages. His skill set includes advanced proficiency in Arc GIS, R, and MATLAB, tools that are indispensable in the modern landscape of archaeological research. This technological fluency enables him to approach archaeological data with a multifaceted perspective, blending traditional excavation techniques with cutting-edge data analysis.
